Adam works with with Adult Men, Queer Identified Gay Men, Gay Male Couples as well as Psychotherapy and Counselling Professionals.
Adam has completed a Doctorate in Psychotherapy and Counselling to be awarded later this year from Middlesex University in London. He holds a Master’s in Counselling, a Graduate Diploma in Individual Psychotherapy and Relationship Therapy, a Bachelor of Counselling and Human Change along with a B.N in nursing and other nursing qualifications.
Adam predominantly works with queer-identified and non-binary, cis-gendered men.
The existential approach informs Adam in his work with his clients to ultimately help them to find the answers to their dilemmas and concerns. Through dialogue of openness and curiosity together and collaboratively the limitations of what life brings are encouraged to be addressed and responded to with support.
From his personal learnings and understanding, Adam is passionate about avoiding the medical model approach to therapy, where the client becomes a commodity. He recognizes the uniqueness of each client’s worldview as defining and operating in a world of paradox.
What Adam’s About
Adam is the Director and provider of Change Happens Psychotherapy and Consulting and a Director of the Centre for Existential Practice, a boutique professional development provider for health professionals. He believes, to make a difference in one’s life, to heal and change perspective, change happens through recognising and confronting the choices we make.
Originally from Scotland, beginning his career as psychiatric nurse, and later in oncology and transplant he was faced with moving away from the medical treatment of patients to a more holistic and individualised approach.
He loves his AFL football, travelling when he can to new places, belongs to a book group (doesn’t everyone), his film and movie group often bring brilliant differences of opinion and great polarised discussions, which adds to the fun, loves live theatre and music, spends time at the gym to fight the aging process (unsuccessfully) and has a sense of humour.
